Merkle

Our Selection Process

You’ll never get the chance to join our company if you don’t apply. So be confident and know that we both want the same thing: the right fit. Merkle is always looking for the best and the brightest people from every background: marketing, analytics, technology, digital media, consulting, creative, account management and more.

Our Selection Process

  • Apply Online: Check out our current openings to see if there is an opportunity that matches what you do best and what you love to do. If you found what you’re looking for, just complete our online application to get things started. Be sure to apply only for opportunities for which you are well qualified – time is precious for all of us and we wouldn’t want you to waste yours or ours.

    • Have a friend or colleague who is on our team? Let them know of your interest in our company. Over 45% of the people we hire are referred by Merkle employees - and many of these are our best hires.
  • Initial Screening: If your experience, skills, and talents seem like they are a good match with a position we’re looking to fill, a member of our talent acquisition team will contact you to arrange a time to talk about the position, gather some additional information about you, answer your initial questions and ensure there is mutual interest in taking things further.

  • Phone Interviews: Expect to have phone interviews with at least two people on our interview team. Each of these conversations will require about 30 minutes of your time. The purpose of the phone interviews is to quickly assess and verify your qualifications for the position. Remember, our on-site interviews are challenging and time consuming-- both for candidates and for our interview team – so our phone interviews help to ensure that taking your time to meet with us in person is in your best interest and ours.

  • On-site Interviews: Expect to be at Merkle for at least half a day. You will typically meet with 4-6 members of an interview team made up of leaders, peers and internal customers. The conversations are one-on-one, some of the people you'll meet will be focused on ensuring that you have the necessary experience, skills and talents, while others will be focused on ensuring that our unique culture is right for you. The conversations will be informal, so relax, and be you. Remember, we want to meet the real you, so make sure that’s who we get to see – not who you think we want to see. We also want you to get to know us, so ask questions! After all, the process is as much for you as it is for us.

  • Project Review: During your interview day, you’ll be asked to deliver a brief presentation – about 30 minutes in length – to the group of people you are interviewing with that day. You’ll be asked to share a project or initiative you were involved with and that you're proud of - something that speaks to your strengths and passions, and that demonstrates who you are and the impact you could have at Merkle. There are no rules around what you should talk about or how your project review should be structured. This is your chance to show us something more about yourself, how you think, solve problems, and answer questions.

You’ll want to choose a topic that has some relevance to the position for which you are interviewing. Be sure to highlight what your specific contribution was to the project and the role that you played. Keep in mind; we are hiring you – not the company you worked for or the team that worked on the project with you. So we want to know what you did, what you learned, what the results were and what you would do differently if you were doing it again. Some people create PowerPoint presentations, some people deliver oral presentations, while others draw on the whiteboard. However you choose to go about it, be sure your project review clearly demonstrates, “Why you?”

Some of the comments we’ve heard from candidates after the project review include:

“Putting together the project review was really challenging, but after going through the process I had a much better understanding of what I could bring to the position and to Merkle.”

“Having to complete the project review helped me to think about how my prior experience related to the job I was interested in, and helped me clarify how to talk about that in the interviews.”

“I was really nervous about the project review but in the end, it made me realize how much I wanted to come to Merkle and that I was ready to join a talented and smart group of people.”

  • Interview Team Caucus: Employees at Merkle are empowered to make a difference. They are encouraged to think for themselves and to find ways to help the company be successful. In this kind of culture, it’s far easier for a single employee to have a significant impact – both positive and negative – on the company. Because of that, we believe that no single person should make hiring decisions (including our CEO). Finding the right talent is so important at Merkle that it must be done by a team. After you’ve met with the team of interviewers and had your project review, the interview team will get together for a caucus to discuss how well you fit the role, and how well you fit Merkle’s culture. An offer to join us will only be made if a majority of the interview team agrees.

  • Follow up: Unlike a lot of companies, we really do follow up. When you take the time to come in for an onsite interview, we will call you within 48 hours to discuss next steps. Even if it's just to say "We don't know yet." We won't leave you hanging.
