David Williams is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Merkle Inc. He acquired Merkle in 1988 and became its 24th employee. Today, Merkle has more than 2,600 employees in locations in the United States, China and United Kingdom, and is the nation’s largest and fastest-growing independent Customer Relationship Marketing (CRM) agency.
Under David’s leadership, Merkle has sustained 25% annual growth over the last 20 years and was recognized as a market leader by Forrester Research in 2003, 2006 and 2007. In 2014, Advertising Age ranked Merkle as the 22nd largest agency of any discipline worldwide and the 7th largest CRM/Direct agency in the U.S. Also in 2012, Merkle was named to the “Ten Agencies to Watch” list in Advertising Age’s A-List Issue. David was recognized by Winning Workplaces and Fortune Magazine as one of America’s Best Bosses of 2006, and was the 2007 Maryland Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
David is the author of the book, Connected CRM: Implementing a Data-Driven, Customer-Centric Business Strategy, which was published in 2014 by Wiley Publishing. In the book, he shares his knowledge and experience, with the intent of helping world-class brands build stronger, more profitable relationships with their customers.
David currently serves on the board of directors for the Ad Council. He served for 6 years (2006-2011) on the Board of Directors of the Direct Marketing Association where he also sat on its Executive Committee. He also served for 3 years (2010-2013) as a member of the Board of Trustees at the Howard County General Hospital: A Member of John Hopkins Medicine. David is a frequent speaker at industry events and has written numerous articles and white papers about topics such as Customer Relationship Marketing, Database Marketing and Analytics, Digital Media and Marketing Technology.
He began his career at Butcher & Singer, a Philadelphia-based investment bank, and holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
David Yuan joined Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV) in 2005, and is a General Partner focusing on software, internet, and information services. David currently serves on the boards of ExactTarget, Merkle, and Sitecore , and his other active investments include Facebook, OSIsoft, and Splunk (NASDAQ: SPLK). His prior investments include Global360 (acquired by OTEX), RenRen (RENN), Seismic Micro Technology (acquired by IHS), and Tinyprints (acquired by SFLY). David has been recognized among the top 100 technology deal makers on the Forbes Midas list.
Prior to joining TCV, David was an investment professional with JPMorgan Partners, a global private equity firm. Prior to JPMorgan Partners, David was an early employee and director of business development at 1stUp (acquired by CMGI), and a management consultant in the San Francisco office of Bain & Company.
David received an AB in economics from Harvard University and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Jim Warner serves as a board member, advisor, investor and consultant to early- and growth stage companies focusing in digital media and marketing. His portfolio includes Merkle, MediaMind Technologies, Healthline Networks, ChaCha Answers, Criteo and Metamorphic Ventures.
During a thirty-year career in the media business, Jim has built and led organizations in digital media and marketing, network television, cable and pay-TV and magazine publishing and held leadership positions at Avenue A, Razorfish and its parent company, aQuantive, Primedia, CBS and HBO.
Warner received a BA with honors from Yale College and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is a Trustee of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of New York City.
A veteran in management consulting and technology, Bob recently retired after 35 years with Accenture. He also retired as the chairman of the Avanade board and is currently the executive chairman of Aricent Group.
His executive-level posts at Accenture included group chief executive, where he maintained overall responsibility for the company’s North American operations; chief risk officer, responsible for managing Accenture’s overall business risk; and chief operating officer of the company’s Communication & High Tech operating group. Other positions within that group included global managing partner of the Electronics & High Tech operating group and managing partner of the US Aerospace & Defense operating unit. He also served as managing partner of the Asia Pacific operating units for the Products and Resources operating groups. Bob was instrumental in the creation of Avanade, a technology company formed by Accenture with Microsoft.
Bob is a certified public accountant and a certified manufacturing fellow. He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Illinois. Bob lives in Southern California with his wife and their two daughters.
