Linking to a post today I wrote over at Search Engine Land: Paid Search Trends 2006 vs. 2007 Highlights:
  • Impressions up 24%, but clicks only up 5% -- that is CTRs dropped, from an average of 2.1% in 2006 to 1.8% in 2007
  • CPCs rose 5%, from an average of $0.51 in 2006 to $0.54 in 2007
  • Conversion rates rose 8%, from 1.34% in 2006 to 1.44% in 2007
  • On average, our catalog clients typically saw the smallest year-over-year change in key metrics like CPC, CTR and cost-per-order -- perhaps indicating the maturity of catalogers using paid search
  • On average, our national retail clients saw the greatest change in key metrics '06 vs. '07 -- CPCs up 21%, sales up 30%, conversion rates up 35%
