Job Description:

The Senior Account Director (AD) will lead and grow our day-to-day client engagement with a dedicated number of high-tech clients based mainly (but not exclusively) in the Seattle area.

This leader will work closely with and indirectly oversee team members from shared services (e.g., media, analytics, technology, digital, experience, etc.) who help identify, drive, and implement people-based marketing solutions for our clients.

The Senior AD will establish and maintain strong partnerships with the clients by:

  • Striving to understand the clients’ business and strategic objectives
  • Ensuring successful strategic execution of deliverables
  • Fostering the delivery of thought leadership on transformational initiatives
  • Providing credible experience in large global media team management
  • Providing very strong account management and administrative oversight

Day-to-day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Delivery Support / Client Satisfaction Management

  • Partner with internal Project Managers to set and hit milestones for projects
  • Identify and report opportunities for improvement and red flags on delivery of current/existing engagements
  • Ensure and drive responsiveness to client asks
  • Drive pace/consistency and coordination of delivery-related communication, including preparation of QBRs
  • Work with client campaign/program/project/business managers to understand their business needs/goals
  • Build project objectives while working with multiple Merkle and client teams to develop overall project plans

Global Media Strategy and Execution Leadership

  • Work with the corporate and regional client and Merkle teams to align consistent delivery
  • Provide strategic advice and orchestrate forums to drive increased performance of media campaigns
  • Ensure quality of service and delivery of service levels for each contract
  • Ensure linkages between media and other areas of focus like data, CRM, creative development, etc.
  • Build joint strategic partner business plans to drive innovation and increase performance

Relationship Building / Be a Trusted Advisor

  • Strengthen and broaden the relationships across the clients’ organization
  • Help the client drive its marketing transformation agenda, fostering the delivery of business transformation ideas and strategies by leveraging Merkle’s SMEs and service line practice leaders

Business Development / Retention

  • Proactively relay Merkle’s thought leadership positions and points of view
  • Uncover and relay new opportunities for cross-sell. Work with client partner to drive business development discussions on-site with the client.
  • Lead the sale of extension opportunities and manage contract negotiations in partnership with the client partner

 

Organization / Extended Scope

  • The Senior AD reports into the Client Partner and is part of the client services organization
  • The Senior AD is a natural backup to Client Partner in his/her absence

 

Location / Travel (<10% of time)

  • Role located in Seattle, WA
  • Travel mainly in US but occasionally global
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Marketing required; advanced degree preferred
  • 8+ years of industry experience in digital marketing in an interactive agency
  • Experience managing paid media engagements ($20m+ budgets)
  • B2B or technology client or in-house experience
  • Good understanding of all aspects of direct response marketing and testing, ideally of media buy
  • Solid understanding of key marketing channels (email, web, direct mail, telemarketing, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluent English
  • Excellent ability to manage client relationships, especially sensitive issues, and effectively problem solve
  • Ability to communicate between technical and non-technical resources
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Results oriented, customer focused, team player, and leader
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and exercise sound business judgment
  • Ability to be engaged on multiple projects, topics and priorities to align with client strategic objectives and roadmap
  • A self-starter with ability to multitask and experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong client relationship skills are required; experience presenting information to large groups is highly desirable
