Job Description:

Merkle NE is creating a new role as Practice Lead within Commerce. The Practice Lead is the most senior delivery position within the region, providing depth of commerce specific experience with the responsibility to cultivate, organize and elevate the commerce capability across the agency.

Commerce is a major strategic and commercial focus area for Merkle, and a crucial element of delivering on our vision of connected experiences and CX-led commerce. Therefore the Practice Lead is expected to be a key agency leader both in terms of influencing our overall strategic direction, strengthening our market position through thought leadership, helping to win pitches on new strategic accounts, as well as developing both team expertise and delivery excellence within commerce.

The Practice Lead has agency-wide responsibilities as the ambassador for all craft processes and practices. It is the Lead’s role to improve delivery methodologies, reporting, knowledge sharing, to provide guidance and support to account and project teams and to empower teams to deliver the best solutions for our clients.

The Practice Lead has an important role in creating a community of commerce expertise across markets, and will serve as the central point of leadership for our commerce capabilities across the The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. This extends to both a community of knowledge sharing and development, and the development of ways of working as an integrated cross-border team.

Daily tasks as Practice Lead, Commerce

  • Successfully negotiates timelines, scope and budget across portfolio of clients
  • Helps teams define and scope commerce solutions that achieve the clients’ goals
  • Assists growth team in estimating, answering, and presenting RFP and pitch responses to win new work
  • Inspires and engages the commerce team and team leaders across markets to ensure they deliver at their best and keep growing
  • Works with the Operations and business teams around staffing and resource management, ensuring all commerce projects have the right delivery resources

  • Building a high performing practice where leads and team members are consistently driving client outcomes
  • Positioning self as commerce industry expert, drives inspiration and contributes to the formulation of best practices
  • Demandind highest quality of output and drives a culture of excellence within the team
  • Building client facing relationships across a portfolio of accounts, acts as point of escalation
  • Owning the quality output of the commerce team 
  • Attracting, developing and retaining quality talent
  • Providing clear direction, ambition and empowerment for the team within the commerce practice and responsible for knowledge sharing and regular community cadences
  • Taking commercial responsibility for deliveries

Strategic focus

  • Staying on top of commerce technologies and inform our decisions on partnerships 
  • Encouraging knowledge sharing across the agency and educate both business teams and other practice teams on best practice within commerce
  • Defining staffing and resource management needs for the practice, making sure we have the right talent, capacity, and the right “right-shoring” (On-/near-/off-shoring) approach to deliver competitively on client challenges
  • Identifying learning and training for the team and sets strategy for certification of employees within certain platforms
  • Providing training and support for the team on any number of commerce technologies and tools

  • 8+ years experience within commerce with a strong digital focus
  • 5+ years experience of leading teams of skilled craft experts including developers and QA experts
  • Experience successfully delivering large and complex commerce projects
  • Commercial understanding, both in terms of understanding client business models and our own agency business
  • Understanding of the commerce landscape, able to assess both CX vision and ability to execute of potential partners
  • Consulting skills, being able to credibly advice clients on their business challenges 
  • Presentation skills, being persuasive, clear and convincing when explaining technical aspects to non-technical audiences
  • Leadership skills and advanced problem solving skills
  • Experience managing developers and creative teams
  • Takes ownership and responsibility for work, is proactive not reactive
  • Positive can do attitude
